Ethics can come from various sources, including religious beliefs, cultural traditions, and philosophical theories. The responsibility of ethics lies with the individual and the organization, as they are accountable for their actions and decisions.
In healthcare organizations, ethics play a significant role in decisions about patient care and medical treatments. Two real-life case examples are the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, where a group of African American men was used as human subjects without their knowledge or consent, and the case of Dr. Harold Shipman, who was convicted of killing 15 patients through lethal injections.
A significant ethics issue in healthcare is end-of-life care and euthanasia. The handling of this issue varies depending on the ethics theory used to guide decision-making.
