Compared to so-called “able-bodied” sports, their histories are considerably shorter—but certainly no less interesting or important. Upon completion of this assignment, students will be able to understand how sports were adapted and can be adapted. Resources Also see Experiential Learning Guidelines. Most parasports have been adapted from other sports. • Student will select four sports from the Official Paralympic Program (see, and within two pages, describe how they are adapted (half-page per selected sport) • Then, choose two other sports that have not been included in the Official Paralympic Program (see, and describe how they can be adapted. Also discuss which group of individuals (with specific medical condition[s]) would be suitable for the participation in your adapted/modified sports. You will need to search out information on each “able-bodied” sport first, and then develop possible adaptations and modifications. This should take no more than two pages in total (one-page per one selected sport). • I anticipate seeing a variety of references in your paper. Please cite them properly using APA 6th formatting guidelines. Online resources are also acceptable for this assignment. Formatting • Online submission through UM Learn, Microsoft Word format • Title page (e.g., your name and ID number, the course title, and the assignment title). • 4-pages in length (this does not include the title page and the reference page). • 1.5 lines-spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and 1” margin • Page number at the bottom of each page. • In-text citation and reference list must be included according to APA 6th Guidelines 2 | Page WINTER 201 9 Assessment Your assignment will be assessed based upon the following criteria: • All the required information is included; • Description of adaptations for four parasports is accurate and thorough; • Identification of adaptational strategies for two newly selected sports is insightful/thoughtful (i.e., critical insight and freshness of thought); • Adaptational strategies are innovative, meaningful, and varied; • Respectful and consistent disability language is used; • Ideas are clearly presented and organized; • A sense of completeness about the handling of the topic is achieved; • Selection of references are well-aligned (i.e., intelligent use of sources); • It is well written (free of grammatical and spelling errors); and • The written report follows the formatting guidelines provided. Late submission 10% per day will be deducted from the total marks (weekend days included) for each day the report is late. The late penalty will take effect after 11:30 am on Thursday March 28th, 2019.
