Introduction:

As a medical professor, it is important to provide college assignments and answers that challenge and develop a student’s skills in the healthcare industry. This Key Assignment Final Paper is designed to test the student’s ability to analyze data, evaluate the impact of metrics on a hospital budget and reimbursement opportunities, and incorporate research from various sources. Additionally, the second part of the assignment asks the student to reflect on their professional development through their work for the Task Force and to consider future skills they need to acquire to continue to advance their healthcare management career.

Part 1:

Healing Hands Hospital is preparing financially for the different reimbursement changes associated with Medicare Advantage Plans and the need to demonstrate improved quality of care. The hospital needs to research and analyze data regarding the length of stay and hospital-acquired infections and their impact on the budget and reimbursement opportunities. The Chief Financial Officer and Chief Nursing Officer are seeking the student’s assistance in evaluating these aspects of patient care.

The student’s paper should incorporate the topics covered in the unit 1-4 Individual projects, comparing Healing Hands Hospital to other hospitals in the nation, state, and region for average length of stay and hospital-acquired infection rates. The student should analyze how these metrics impact the organization’s budget and reimbursement, especially considering Medicare reimbursement will be impacted. The student should use data from the chosen hospital to represent Healing Hands Hospital and compare data for the same state and region in a table or graph. The reference list should include a minimum of three reference sources besides the textbook, documenting all references using APA format.

Part 2:

The student was recognized for their abilities and value to Healing Hands Hospital by being asked to be part of the Task Force. Although the student was not an expert in all aspects of the healthcare industry on which they were asked to report, they were given the opportunity to develop skills as a professional and expand their expertise in the healthcare field. The Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Woods, is curious about the student’s feelings regarding the opportunity and the skills they developed in the process.

The student should write a 2-3 paragraph memo to Ms. Woods that reflects on their professional development through the work for the Task Force, including the skills they already possessed, the skills they developed, and the skills they need to continue to advance in their healthcare management career. The student should consider how they will continue to maintain their acquired skills and knowledge base, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development.
