HCA 540 Grand Canyon University Health Care Benchmark

Assessment Description

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze statistical tests and interpret the results.

Review the “Health Care Research, Analysis, and Utilization Scenarios” document and select either the Hospital or Home Care scenario to utilize in the assignment. Additionally, review the “Health Care Research Statistical Data Set” resource and complete a written analysis (500-750 words) of the statistical data that addresses the following:

  1. Review the case study scenario selected and analyze the data set results by providing your interpretation of the research data presented.
  2. Discuss what makes a test statistically significant.
  3. Demonstrate data literacy by providing a rationale for the indicated statistical tests that best applies to the data set provided.
  4. Discuss what the accepted confidence intervals are in health care research, why they are useful, and why it is important to organize, prioritize, and report statistical results.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Introduction:

This assignment requires the students to analyze statistical tests and interpret the results based on a given healthcare scenario. The purpose is to assess their understanding of statistical data and data literacy skills.

Answer 1:

The case study scenario selected for this assignment should be thoroughly reviewed and analyzed, with the aim to interpret the research data presented. The analysis should address the variables in the data set, any patterns or trends, and other factors that may influence the results. The students should draw conclusions from the analysis and link them to the healthcare scenario, highlighting the relevance and implications for healthcare stakeholders.

Answer 2:

A test is considered statistically significant when the probability of the observed result being obtained by chance is low. In healthcare research, a test is said to be statistically significant when the probability is less than 0.05 or 5%. This allows the researcher to reject the null hypothesis, which states that there is no significant difference or relationship between the variables. A statistically significant test indicates that there is evidence to support a hypothesis, and the results can be generalized to the population.

Answer 3:

Data literacy involves the ability to read, interpret, and analyze data in a meaningful way. In healthcare research, it is important to use statistical tests that best apply to the data set provided. The choice of statistical tests is determined by the type of data, the research question, and the hypothesis being tested. For instance, qualitative data may require different statistical tests compared to quantitative data. The rationale for choosing a particular test should be explained in relation to the research question and the data set.

Answer 4:

Confidence intervals refer to the range of values that is likely to contain the true population parameter, with a certain degree of confidence. In healthcare research, the accepted confidence intervals are typically set at 95% or 99%. This means that if the study was repeated multiple times, 95% or 99% of the samples would contain the true population parameter. Confidence intervals are useful in healthcare research because they provide a margin of error and help researchers make informed decisions with a certain level of confidence. It is important to organize, prioritize, and report statistical results to ensure clarity and transparency in healthcare research. Clear reporting can help prevent misinterpretation of results and facilitate knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
