Controlling immigration:

A global perspective (3rd ed.). Palo Alto, CA: Stanford University Press. After reading Part I of Controlling immigration:

A global perspective (3rd ed.), which includes Chapter 1 and the chapter on the country of your choice (the U.S., Canada, Australia, France, Great Brittan, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Japan & South Korea, the European Union), consider the following after assuming each country’s immigration policy or policies has already covered an economic (the production, distribution and use of income, wealth and commodities) and demographic (number of citizens, gender, racial, cultural, etc. backgrounds) foundation.

v. Discuss the global implications of oppression and human rights violations that may result in the implementation from their immigration policy. Consider how well, or not, the country of your choosing created their immigration policy based on the concepts of citizenship, and basic human rights (Brubaker, 1989; Carens, 2000). Please define “citizenship” as a legal status, defined by civil, political and social rights, by which a person is a member of a community [country] and free to act according to the law and having the right to claim the law’s protection. It need not mean that the citizen takes part in the law’s formulation, nor does it require that rights be uniform between citizens. Please define “human rights” as the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education. Within the cultural context of the country make an argument to maintain the current immigration policy. Write a condensed immigration policy in keeping with the cultural context of the country, which includes a focus on citizenship, economic justice, social justice and basic human rights.
