How to solve
Conflict Resolution Paper Nursing Assignment Help

Introduction:

In healthcare settings, conflicts are inevitable due to the nature of the work and the various personalities involved. It is essential for healthcare professionals to identify and manage conflicts effectively to ensure patient care is not negatively impacted. This assignment aims to provide insight into conflict management strategies and develop a plan to collaborate with a nurse leader to manage conflicts.

Detailed description of conflict, including type of conflict:

In my prelicensure experience, I observed a conflict between a registered nurse (RN) and a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the orthopedics department of a local hospital. The conflict was related to a delegation issue, where the RN assigned the LPN to perform a task that was outside of her scope of practice. The LPN felt uncomfortable performing the task and refused, leading to a heated argument between the two. The conflict was unresolved, and both nurses continued to work in a hostile environment, negatively impacting patient care. This conflict is an example of an interpersonal conflict, as it arises due to differing personalities and perceptions of the nurses involved.

Four stages of conflict and relationship to identified conflict, including delegation issues:

The four stages of conflict, as described by Finkelman, are the latent stage, the perceived stage, the felt stage, and the manifest stage. In this conflict, the latent stage occurred when the RN assigned the LPN to perform a task outside of her scope of practice. The perceived stage occurred when the LPN realized she was being asked to perform something beyond her abilities and refused. The felt stage occurred when the argument ensued, and both nurses became angry and hostile towards each other. The manifest stage was evident when both nurses continued to work in a hostile environment, impacting patient care. Delegation issues were at the core of this conflict, as the RN assigned a task outside of the LPN’s scope of practice, leading to the disagreement.

Strategies for conflict resolution and collaboration with a leader:

To resolve this conflict, effective communication is essential. The nurse leader can facilitate communication between the RN and LPN and provide education on delegation and the scope of practice for each member of the team. The nurse leader can also encourage collaborative problem-solving, acknowledging the concerns of both parties, and finding a solution that works for all. In addition, the nurse leader can create a supportive environment that promotes teamwork and unity, reducing the likelihood of future conflicts.

Rationale for selecting the best strategy:

The best strategy for resolving this conflict is collaboration and effective communication, as it promotes understanding and mutual respect between team members. By creating a supportive environment, the nurse leader can encourage teamwork and open communication, reducing the likelihood of future conflicts.

Conclusion or summary:

In conclusion, conflicts in healthcare settings are inevitable, but healthcare professionals can manage them effectively to promote patient care. This assignment provided insight into conflict management strategies and highlighted the importance of collaboration and effective communication in resolving conflicts. As a healthcare professional, it is essential to be aware of conflict resolution strategies and collaborate with nurse leaders to manage conflicts effectively. By doing so, patient care can be optimized, and a supportive work environment can be created.
